I am so excited to share the launch of this new project with you. This spring has been a particularity busy one, (and sadly, the blog posts have been far and few between because of it.) But that's only because we've been so busy doing fun farming stuff!
Many of the posts I would have put on the Iron Oak Farm blog, I've been sending over to Grit, where I am now a regular contributor. I always put a link here, so it's still us, just in a different place. In the near future I hope to get the content flowing again, back here at our home blog. You can always find quick updates on our Facebook Page.
So the project... Over the years, Jennifer Burke of 1840 Farm and I have become great friends via e-mail, blog exchanges and Facebook. Though she lives 5-odd states away, I feel truly connected and inspired by what she does on her farm. We share a passion for farming, animals, good food and organic gardening and I love reading about her adventures!
I was lucky enough to participate in one of her recent adventures as I was asked to do the illustrations to accompany the new 1840 Farm Heirloom Seed Collections! It was an honor. I knew if Jennifer was organizing this project, that it would be top notch. And indeed, now that I see it all coming together I am so proud to be a part of it!
She highlights each seed variety with a detailed description of her experience with the plant, a profile including planting instructions, flavor and history and a recipe from her very own kitchen. It's a very friendly and personal way to garden.
The Collections and Seed Profiles can be found on her blog at 1840 Farm and the Collections can be purchased here in her Etsy Mercantile Shop.
Prints of the vegetables, herbs and flowers that accompany each seed can be purchased in the Iron Oak Farm shop on Etsy.
I'm so proud to be sharing your beautiful artwork and working with you on The 1840 Farm Heirloom Seed Collection. Here's to friendship, heirlooms, and a world of possibilities!
