This design works wonderful for poultry with larger anatomical features. Our turkeys have larger beaks and larger heads than our chickens and they really enjoy this system. It would also work perfectly for ducks who drink in a scooping motion with their bills.
Materials Needed
-Maxi Cup waterer (Available for purchase soon from Solway)
-Plastic bucket with lid, we're using a 5 gallon
-drill
-7/16" drill bit
Simply drill a hole 2 1/4" from the bottom of the bucket. Remove the filter and the nut from the threaded post.
Tighten the nut on the inside,
and install the filter.
Fill with water and place the bucket lid on top to keep things extra clean.
The compact cup design minimizes debris from entering the water. As the birds drink, clean water is replaced from the bucket. So 5 gallons of drinking water is always available to your birds, with minimal exposure to dirt.

I would love to win this for my girls! One of the hardest things is keeping their water supply clean, and lugging fresh water several times a day gets crazy. laddspam at gmail.com
Crystal Abel websurfergirl19@hotmail.com My mixed flock wouldn't be able to knock over the water and spill it all over or get huge debris in it with this waterer.
Absolutely great waterer! I saw this on Community Chickens and have since been browsing your website. I love it!
Mary Klepac sunniehart@hotmail.com . This waterer looks like it would solve a lot of problems. My daughter would love it for her spoiled girls!
priscillaalnge@yahoo.com This is a simple but clever idea for watering your fowl. Having it raised off of the floor is key in keeping debri out as well. I'd love to start my chicks out with this innovative necessity. Thanks for the 2nd. opportunity to enter this giveaway. Peggy Lange
bestponymilo@yahoo.com. I'd love to have one of these--would make my mornings so much easier since I have to carry buckets daily from the house to the coop!
Love this waterer! The tank could be wrapped in heat tape to avoid freezing in winter, and a piece of PVC leading into it, through the lid, from the outside of the coop would make refilling very easy.
I would love to win this for my girls! it would mean less filling waterers and cleaner water too! thanks so much for the opportunity to win it!

I'm getting heritage turkey hatching eggs (Bourbon Reds) in a couple of weeks. This Solway waterer will be the turkey's pajamas to get my turkeys started out right, with clean fresh water from the get-go. Thank you for this opportunity to win such a great design in watering systems!
I would like to win the maxi cup waterer for my daughter-in-law Paula who gets up at 4 A.M. before work to feed and water her 24 chickens, cats, and dogs. She has a a fenced in space under a dual chicken coop/feral cat structure that is very difficult to haul water to in the outside space. This would save her back from carrying buckets of water from the kitchen to the coop. All of her pets are rescue animals so I think she deserves to win! I also babysit for her animals and it would make watching the outside animals much easier for me!
Would love to add this to our farm - like you I am in love with our heritage turkey's (I see some little chocolate poults in the pic) this would make the chore of hauling water a lot easier. clheidrich@gmail.com. Thanks for the chance to win - Carrie
As we all know keeping clean water for our birds is a challenge! I think this system would solve my problem and I could then add ducks!
I just recently inherited a flock and they had the nipple waterer, but it just fell and broke :( This is a great watering system and it would be so easy to install and use. I would love it very much!! My name is Rhonda Lynn and my email is (written out to prevent spam) inspiredfelt (at) gmail.com
I love the design and think it would be a great help in keeping the girls' water clean.
Nice waterer! love to see my chickies with clean water all the time. millierose651@aol.com thanks PattyK
I'd love to use this in my chicken tractor to keep my girls hydrated while they get some fresh bugs and grass during the day! cjngamer (at) gmail.com

It would make things better for our flock, with it coming into hotter months they would need more water; being we live in the south and it's so hot and humid down here.
ahoven@aol.com
I am so tired of cleaning up water in the coop. This would be wonderful for my turkeys and me!
Thank-you,
Angie
'Anonymous' at jmka711@hotmail.com . I have aherd of Nubian milk goats and a flock of assorted hens. This waterer would be a great help in watering hens and keeping them out of the Does' water. Clean clear water for All ! Amen !
Helen LaRue, hlarue0257@gmail,com. this would sure keep my chickens from spilling the water!
Mary Bronson, maryyucaipa@aol.com. This is such a great idea and my hens would love it especially with the weather warming up.
KarenLane@aol.com. This looks like the best idea yet for keeping clean water available!
Thank you for offering this giveaway!!!
My name is Toni
My Email address is blkoi1950@gmail.com
I would like to win because where I live it gets really hot during the summer and my watering options are limited either due to the heat, algae growth or water fouling.
So I keep my chickens waterer in their coop.
Currently it is a 5 gallon water bottle upside down in a 5 gallon water bucket.
This becomes gross in a heartbeat!!!!
I have tried using watering nipples but this puts the bucket too high for me to comfortable carry and I am afraid the chickens will knock it off when it is partially filled and hurt themselves.
Having a maxi-cup on a bucket would be great!
It would solve so many problems!!!!
I can fill the bucket and the rest of the water will not become fouled up!!!!
If I won, I would gladly do a write up on how having it has helped.
April at april.coffin@gmail.com. Our waterers sit outside since our birds (turkeys, guineas, chickens) free-range during the day -- and since we are in Oklahoma, the wind gets the water crazy-dirty, all the time! I think this gadget would have a great wind-block of the reservoir, and maybe eliminate some of the grit and subsequent cleaning!
We would like to add Muscovy ducks and a few turkeys to our growing chicken flock, and this would be an easier way to keep their water clean. As it is now my husband or daughter goes out several times a day to clean out all the gunk that collects in normal waterers, and it would be nice to eliminate that chore! Thanks so much!
anewrue@yahoo.com
Wow! This is awesome. I have 105 chick's and 2 turkeys right now and I feel like I'm always watering. This would truly be a help.
I really like this waterer. What a time saver it could be this summer.
Lisa Shoulders lisashoulders@yahoo.com This would help my 1st flock and help to not have them bathe in every container.
We just brought home our first batch of chicks a few weeks ago and we don't have a watering system chosen for their portable coop yet. The Solway one looks like a great way to keep the water clean. Thank-you for the chance to win. Krista krisbudlongathotmaildotcom
Angela Patterson mom2avi@yahoo.com
I have 19 new additions that will need water! Cant wait. So I need it!
It would help to keep out debris like most others that get all nasty. thebestestcookiesever@yahoo.com
this would help alot as we have turkeys that tip over the waterers ty for the chance to win this lola bruesch lbruesch1950@msn.com
I could sure use one for a better way to worm/medicate my birds. Jake Martin Rattlerjake@yahoo.com
Great post, will look into purchasing for my chickens. Thanks
lauragenther@hotmail.com I would love to have this for my mixed flock! I'm loving especially the horizontal design of this!
What a cool device! It would certainly help keep my 10 chickens' water clean and fresh, especially during summer months.
Thanks!

Would love to win this for my chickens, I am tired of emptying their bowls filled with poop each day. loriandersen2000@yahoo.com
thepamperedgoat@yahoo.com - Barbara Berry - I make numerous trips to make sure my girls have clean cool water and this would certainly cut down the travel time - How great is that!!
Deanna Church deechurch@oppcatv.com
This would be wonderful for me. I have to carry water quite a distance so being able to do it less often would be very helpful.
Actually I would use this for my cockatiels. I have about 40+ in an outside aviary and boy does their water get grungy.

Linda@lindasteiger.com would love to win one of these waterers. Think it might even work in the winter by sitting it on the solid electric chicken water warmers. I have a few ducks in with my chickens and they get the water tub so dirty because they want to swim in it! With a bad back most waterers are too heavy for my to lift - I could refill this one with the hose.
Our chickens tip over the bowls we have so we've resorted to open dishes. Would love to have one of these to try!

Hillary Doggart-Greer hjdgreer@gmail.com There is a decent sized hill between our run/coop and the spigot. After adding 5 more ladies to our flock, I could use something to reduce my water filling duties!
I've been using the chicken nipple watering system, but I've been wanting to get some ducks. I have been looking for some way that is as convenient to water ducks, This is it!
I'm brand new to chicken raising. This watering method would help me immensely, because I wouldn't have to change the water so often. Since I'm disabled, any type of help is great.
Thanks!

Thanks for the chance! Brand new at all this. Getting my first baby orps at the end of the month and trying to win all the free stuff I can!

This looks like a wonderful boon to watering, with our current methods it seems you just cant get away from getting dirty water or putting your back out with the never ending cleaning/refilling of these methods. With a disabled hubby it generally leaves the lugging around to me and my back can't take it too much either. We would love this system.
