Musquee de Provence Heirloom Squash

This is by far my favorite variety of pumpkin! Technically the Musquee de Provence is a squash originating in France, (who would have thought with a name like that? He he!) This is a beautiful variety! A soft orange-y tan with a matte waxy flesh that almost looks as if it has been powdered. It has a very fairytale squatty shape and it's exaggerated indents give it so much character. This squash is not only lovely to decorate with, but I'm told that it's delicious and hands down, the best pumpkin for pumpkin pies.

It looks very similar in color and shape to the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, but the deeper ridges set it apart. This specimen is one of the many that we grew this year from seed on our farm. I can't wait to start making pies and pumpkin cheesecakes with the roasted flesh, but they're too beautiful, I can't bring myself to cut them up just yet.

It's a gorgeous squash! I wonder if Baker Creek has them...

They do, indeed, Mary Ann! They sell 25-30 seeds for $2.75 or 1 ounce for $7.

I'm making up a list for my next seed order and have added these, Jennifer. :)
