Jennifer- Never cut rooster spurs. Upi just twist them off with a pliers. Please update this post. The potato; forget it! You just hold the roo and take a plier and twist the outter coating off the spur. It will be a little raw but will heal into a smaller spur and regrow the nail. anything else is really inhumane!!
